We have tenants who, unfortunately, lost their three-year-old to drowning in a pool while at a family party. The child's parents were devastated and couldn't work or even function well, even though they had a one-year old to care for. We had no rent coming in for four months while they applied for government rental assistance. During that time we had no assurance that we would ever see any rent again, plus we paid someone to do the lawn care that they were supposed to do, we drove 50 minutes to a bookstore to buy a special book for grieving parents, and we tried to be supportive.
